New Delhi, Feb 13: A car belonging to Israel embassy exploded in Delhi on Monday, Feb 13. According to media reports the car was moving towards 7 RCR which left questions over the security arrangement for diplomats including Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) sources confirmed the incident. However, it has not been confirmed whether it was a terror attack or a fire accident.
The car number was - 109 CD 35. Two people were left injured in the incident. Media reports suggest that the three representatives of the Israeli embassy might have been the targets.
According to sources, a bike rider, who was following the car, attached something to its rear and police suspected that it could be a paper bomb. After the explosion, a 42-year-old lady (Israeli diplomat) flung to the opposite side of the road, claimed reports.
Meanwhile, contradictory media reports claim that a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cylinder blast could have led to the explosion in the vehicle (Toyota Innova), apparently due to excess pressure when it was being filled up.
Security all around 7RCR (the official residence of the Prime Minister) and to the other diplomats have been beefed up. Police reached the spot after being alerted, after the incident took place at around 2 pm.
All injured have been admitted in RML Hospital in the national capital. Here it can be mentioned that the report of the explosion came with another report of similar nature in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia. Co-incidentally, the blast have taken place just a day after of the death anniversary of Hezbollah leader Imad Mughniyah who was killed when his car exploded in 2008.
