Ahmedabad, Feb 15: A court on Feb 15 declared that a copy of SIT report on Gujarat riots 2002 will not be handed over to Teesta Setalvad but it will be given to Zakia Jafri within a month.

The court also said that Zakia Jafri will be given all other related documents related the Gulburg riots case including the closure report submitted by the SIT.

The Gujarat court said that all applications seeking copy of SIT report in Gulburg riots case will be dealt with only after probe panel submits complete report. The SIT will choose a date in the next one month when they would want to share the voluminous report.

Earlier the investigative agency opposed to hand over the report to Teesata and lawyer Mukul Sinha saying, "They (the activists) have 'no locus in the case'."

Here it can be recalled that the report was based on the complaint filed against Modi and others in the 2002 riots case. According to sources, the SIT in its closure report mentioned that they had not found any prosecutable evidence against Modi to name him an accused in the case.

The SIT filed its closure summary before the metropolitan court on the case filed by Zakia Jafri, the widow of slain Congress MP Ehsan Jafri.

Modi along with 62 other accused has been relieved in the case filed by Zakia. The Supreme Court had earlier ordered the SIT to probe the allegation made by Zakia on the Gulbarg Society massacre that saw the death of 67 people. She had stated that there was a larger conspiracy behind the attacks.

The probe agency headed by former CBI chief R K Raghavan could not find any evidence on this to make Modi and others culpable.

Samjhauta Express case: NIA arrests ‘bomb planter’

In a significant breakthrough into the 2007 Samjhauta Express blast case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested one person, identified as Kamal Chauhan, from Indore on Saturday. Chauhan was flown to Delhi on Sunday from where he is likely to be taken to Panchkula where the agency will seek his remand from the NIA court.
The blast had left nearly 70 dead and 100 injured — most of them Pakistanis.
According to the NIA, Chauhan, a resident of Moorkheda village near Indore, is alleged to be one of the conspirators in the case.
He is suspected to be one of the persons who planted the briefcases loaded with explosives on February 18, 2007.
“We will question him regarding his association with Sunil Joshi,” said a top NIA official.
Joshi had allegedly procured the two suitcases used in the twin blast from a shop in Indore.
During its investigations and especially after the arrest of Swami Aseemanand, the NIA had claimed that the blast was the handiwork of saffron terror outfits. The other key suspects — Sandeep Dange, Ramchandra Kalsangra and Ashok alias Ashwini Chauhan — are still on the run on whom the NIA has announced rewards ranging from Rs 2 to 10 lakhs.
Chauhan’s name does not figure among those declared proclaimed offenders by the NIA.
Officials said that his custodial interrogation will provide vital leads, particularly about the three missing accused persons and the sources of explosives.
The arrest comes as a major achievement for the NIA. The case had been put on the back-burner as there had been no significant movement. None of the accused could be arrested, and the NIA suffered a setback after Assemanand retracted his statements.
